Notices

If you want your tenant to leave your property, you have to serve them with notice. Different notices apply to different types of tenancy which are described in our Tenancies pages. If your tenant does not leave, you have to bring court proceedings unless the tenancy is an excluded tenancy or licence. It is your responsibility to show the court that the notice came to the attention of your tenant. The court has rules relating to the service of notices and we can advise you more about this.

On the whole, notices must be in writing. Many cases fail in court because of defective notices. A wrong date in the notice or a failure to include certain information can prove costly and you may have to start the process all over again. In order to prevent this, we can draft correct notices on your behalf.
